Have you noticed that coffee shops are just everywhere?
Its not overly hard to find a coffee in most places nowadays and it just seems to be getting easier. Although I am a bit of a coffee snob and will sometimes not drink a coffee brand if its not to MY standard…I am allowed to be a princess on this too btw. And YES I am writing this in a cafe right now.
Anyhoo – why are we drinking more coffee? Are we getting addicted? What is it?
I have a theory and feel free to poke holes in it, as I only just considered it…
I think we see having a coffee in a cafe as a ‘treat’ to us. Its a treat that we can all (most of us) afford on a regular basis. Therein lies the theory… are we not looking after ourselves enough that we have to get a coffee to feel a little bit special? What are we NOT doing instead?
I am not saying this to diss’ the coffee industry. I love it and as I hardly drink booze…this is my version of a party. p.s Don’t feel sorry for me…I am happy about it.
But think about it.
They say lipstick sales have increased over the years. Why? Because we women are ‘treating’ ourselves to them. Its a small enough purchase to make us feel happy. Is it the same with coffee?
I could flip it to wine. I just googled it and yes! wine sales have increased by 7.5% in the last 12 months. Well there you go. What a treat indeed.
Are we finding that we need a beverage…be it coffee or wine (pick yours) to allow us to feel special and wind down? Why are we not getting this from our relationships? Why are not feeling special in our careers?
Why are we not focusing on our health?
I think in that area we are confused. Yes? Red wine one day is ok for our heart, the next day not so good for our waist. Coffee is great for memory function one day, then not awesome for our hearts. Confused? I know I am.
So we just go with what society tells us to do. Don’t we?
I’d like to say I don’t…but I am probably wrong. I must be getting influenced somewhere in my life. What about our kids? OMFG I can’t even go there.
The point of today’s blog? I don’t know, I didn’t exactly aim for a point – other than something to consider.
Consider what are the little things you are doing day to day. Are you being influenced? Are you feeling the need to be ‘treated’. Where could you get that instead?
Ciao for now
